Inevitable Result

What story and emotions does this track provide?
This track presents a sense of foreboding and impending doom. It seems to tell the tale of a planet under attack with no hope of retaliation.
Describe how the score relates to the visuals? (Does it complement the visuals or is it the polar opposite? Is it upbeat or laidback? Etc.)
I honestly think this track is a little too dark and driving for the visuals but that it could potentially serve as a good contrast to the goofyness of the Fnoons and Barnabys.
What is the function of the music score? Does the score highlight the tension of the game, or is it more comical?
With its slower driving metal theme and overly dramatic melody there may be comedy to be found in the contrast. It feels just overly dramatic enough to not be taken seriously while still driving the gameplay.
How are your Sound Effects affected by the music key and instrumentation of the music score? How will your Sound Effects need to be adjusted?
I may need to rethink some of the lower frequency rumble in my planet ambience as the low droning of the guitar will probably down most of that out. If I go with this one I may need to drastically rethink my ambiences altogether.
DATA DRILL
By Ron Burns
I ultimately decided on Data Drill because after play testing a couple of loops from each option this piece of music fit the best in every aspect. Each loop sounded similar enough to tie the game together yet different enough to represent two distinct levels. It held the game together with an upbeat background that still instilled a sense of action. To top it all off the coda for this piece was absolutely perfect. It had a nice satisfying couple of hits that really give the player that sense of accomplishment. I only wish there wasn't quite the delay between winning and the sound playing. Hopefully before final submission I can figure out how to clean that gap up since the Coda syncs so well with the music for D'Kuk.
What story and emotions does this track provide?
This track made me feel an odd sort of happy lament. Reminds me of the Goonies 2 soundtrack with more of a sci-fi feel. It capture a sense of urgency alongside tension which seems perfect for hunting monsters on an alien planet.
Describe how the score relates to the visuals? (Does it complement the visuals or is it the polar opposite? Is it upbeat or laidback? Etc.)
I think this track is a good contrast to the visuals since it’s upbeat and almost happy despite the key. It seems a good track to focus more on the gameplay itself than on the fact that your destroying monsters for making a joke about your race.
What is the function of the music score? Does the score highlight the tension of the game, or is it more comical?
This score would be to provide a bit of comedy or lightheartedness to the game. It would support more of the animations of the silly looking monsters and contrast with the more barren visuals to keep things interesting.

The pumping on this track may require me to take a second look at both the whir of the engine as well as the low drone hits in my first ambience asset. I’m curious to see how distracting the phasing is since I’m sure it’s not going to be in synch with the pumping of this track.
Midnight Patrol

What story and emotions does this track provide?
This track sets a dark, adventurous mood. It’s pretty easy to picture this as the music to accompany the beginning of an invasion. The beat keeps it exciting lending to the adventurous feeling while the minor key sets the darker tone of the invasion itself.
Describe how the score relates to the visuals? (Does it complement the visuals or is it the polar opposite? Is it upbeat or laidback? Etc.)
The visuals seem to be pretty desolate, with a high tech ship raining doom down on the denizens. I think the upbeat rhythm and melody frame the tech side of the imagery while the driving minor supports the desolate wasteland that seems to be these planets.
What is the function of the music score? Does the score highlight the tension of the game, or is it more comical?
A game like this requires the sound to command the attention since it’s not very graphically engaging. A music score that can both capture the sense of the world it’s set in and keep the player emotionally invested in the experience is key. This particular piece I think highlights the tension pretty well with the driving minor techno combination.
How are your Sound Effects affected by the music key and instrumentation of the music score? How will your Sound Effects need to be adjusted?
I am somewhat concerned about how the vaporizer is going to interact with some of the techno hits. There are a few notes that sound somewhat similar but I honestly think there’s enough distinction between the two to work well. Worse comes to worse I may need to pitch shift the laser up though to differentiate.
