I chose Rumba Chonta as my focus for this course because it was the first time I've been able to explore an afro-Colombian piece of music.  Being a first generation American I hold my Colombian heritage high and take pride in the culture, especially the music.  I'm glad I did as during this class my Abuela passed which allowed my family to create a small tribute to her together which I don't believe would've been possible with any other piece on the list.

This was the live instrument variation of this project which also served as the tribute I mentioned earlier.  This Rumba had a very similar feel to a Colombian cumbia and since Rumba Chonta was in the same key as one of my Abuela's favorite cumbias (La Piragua by Jose Barros) it was the perfect time to get the family into the studio to take part.

This was the sound design variation of the project.  For this variation I did less actual active designing of new sounds and went for more of an approach which told a story that complimented the music.  My goal was to do so while still allowing the music to shine through a be the focal point while still allowing the story of the soccer game to be understood.

REMIX

This was the Rewire variation of my mix.  My goal in this one was to experiment with the groove a bit and see how well an A minor hip-hop run would work overtop of the Dm Bass and Marimba lines.  By taking out the original percussion I was able to implement some of my own loops to gel the hip-hop groove together with the latin feel.
